Feb. 7 2011. Oregon state Sen. Chip Shields introduced a bill that would require retailers to put warning labels on cellphones and on packaging of wireless devices, advising consumers of possible risks associated with radio frequency exposure. The label would be affixed on the front and back of the package. It would also be on the back of the cellphone, occupying at least 30 percent of the surface.

Specifically, the bill calls for a label with the following:

WARNING: This is a radio-frequency (RF), radiation emitting device that has nonthermal biological effects for which no safety guidelines have yet been established. Controversy exists as to whether these effects are harmful to humans. Exposure to RF radiation may be reduced by limiting your use of this device and keeping away from the head and body.

“Given the absence of any federal entity with primary jurisdiction to evaluate and regulate health and safety effects of cellular telephones on humans . . . the state of Oregon may lawfully exercise its health and safety and police powers to prohibit cellular telephones in this state unless the cellular telephones and their packaging contain a visible, written label advising consumers of possible risks and steps a consumer can take to reduce the risk of radio-frequency radiation exposure,” the bill states.

The bill is co-sponsored by Health Committee Chair Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson (D), Sen. Alan Bates (D) (co-chair human services subcommittee), Sen. Rod Monroe (D) (co-chair education subcommittee), Rep. Jim Thompson (R) (co-chair health committee), Rep. Ben Cannon (D) (health care, co-vice chair).

The bill is in response to the increased public awareness of many independently funded scientific studies that do show a link between cell phone use and brain cancer, DNA and genetic damage, reproductive problems, dementia and other health problems. Cell phones were introduced to market with no pre-market safety testing by the FDA or the FCC. Senator Shields believes that Oregon is obligated to do what it can to protect its citizens from the potential hazards of cell phone use and that legislation is needed after comparing conflicting quotes from the FCC and FDA websites and cell phone manuals.

FCC and FDA WEBSITE AS OF OCT, 2010

FCC: “The Commission has stressed repeatedly that it is not a health and safety agency and would defer to the judgment of these expert agencies with respect to determining appropriate levels of safe exposure to RF energy.” …..“There is no federally developed national standard for safe levels of exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy”

FDA: “Under the law, FDA does not review the safety of radiation-emitting consumer products such as mobile phones before marketing…”

Health warnings from Motorola and Blackberry manuals

Use hands-free if available and keep the Blackberry at least .98 in. from your body, “INCLUDING THE ABDOMEN OF PREGNANT WOMEN AND THE LOWER ABDOMEN OF TEENAGERS”

A few animal studies, however, have suggested that low levels of RF could accelerate the development of cancer in laboratory animals. In one study, mice genetically altered to be predisposed to developing one type of cancer developed more than twice as many such cancers when they were exposed to RF energy compared to controls.”

“When 20 types of tumors were considered separately however, an association was found between mobile phone use and one rare type of glioma, neuroepithelliomatous tumors”

“None of these tests showed any effect of the RF except for the micronucleus assay, which detects structural effects on the genetic material. The cells in this assay showed changes after exposure to simulated cell phone radiation”

“Some people who have used mobile phones have been diagnosed with brain cancer.”

“When tumors did exist in certain locations, however, they were more likely to be on the side of the head where the mobile phone was used.

What’s that humming in your pants – or lower abdomen?

Most of us are familiar with the controversy over cell phones and risk of brain cancer. The message that texting is safer than talking is starting to sink in especially with the younger generation. However, few people understand that as long as the cell phone is turned on and in your “pocket or bra”, instead of your brain – it’s irradiating your reproductive organs every few minutes.

If someone needs to reach me – here I am.

How does your cell phone company know where you are? Your cell phone regularly sends out a VERY powerful blast of radiation (up to a few miles) to notify the nearby cell towers of your location. At least once in every 5 minutes, your cell phone and the closest towers act like a GPS system and they triangulate your position. If someone tries to reach you on your cell phone, your cell phone provider knows where you are located because they have a record of you that was stored from you last “check in” a few minutes ago and it routes the call to the towers nearest to you.

So – depending on how many minute intervals you have set your phone to fetch your email messages and how often your phone checks in to the closest towers – you could be irradiating your body every few minutes for at least 10 seconds. If you keep your phone in your pocket, you are giving your vital reproductive organs a large dose of microwaves. If you keep it on your hip in a holster – your pancreas is getting radiated. If it’s in your bra – or seat belt holster – you are radiating your breasts and heart. The only way to shut off the radiation is to put it in “airplane mode” or TURN IT OFF!

The iPhone radiates your body every 5 minutes - turn on airplane mode to stop this from happening.

Infertility and cancer is on the rise.

Testicular cancer for 15 – 35 year old men is now the highest age group for this cancer-not old men. Infertility clinics are a booming business. Why is the media focus on brain cancer and cell phones? The rates of prostate cancer and breast cancer started to climb in the mid 1980′s – roughly the same time wireless cordless and cell phones were commercially introduced . Prostate cancer affects one in 7 men and breast cancer one in 9 women.

Why are there no studies comparing testicular and prostate cancer rates and cell phone use? I can only assume it is – don’t look and you won’t find…or is it – don’t tell what you have found….

If you have difficulty regulating your blood sugar and you are electrically sensitive you may have type 3 diabetes according to research published in the Journal Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine in 2008.

Unlike Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) that is largely genetically controlled, and Type 2 diabetes (adult onset) that increases with obesity, Type 3 diabetes is influenced by environmental exposure to electromagnetic pollutants.

In this peer-reviewed article, 4 case studies are presented that show marked changes in blood sugar associated with dirty electricity. Since so few people read scientific articles, I converted this paper into a short video called Diabetes and Electrosensitivity.

If you or a loved one has diabetes, please watch this video. Share the information with your doctor. Clean up your electromagnetic environment and that includes, not only dirty electricity but also, radiation from wireless technology.

We do not know how how many people have type 3 diabetes (environmentally influenced blood sugar) nor do we know the environmental triggers.

We need your help.

If you have problems regulating your blood sugar and/or suspect you might be electrically sensitive, visit the new website: www.electrosensitivesociety.com and share your information with other members.

September 2009. Dr. Sam Milham, MD, has been researching the health effects of electromagnetic exposure for decades and his most recent paper, which appeared in the September issue of the Journal of Medical Hypotheses, is particularly disturbing. See summary below.

In the 1940s, there was a discrepancy between electricity use in rural vs urban centres in some US states. This allowed Milham to compare death rates for various diseases and relate them to the degree of electrification.

In states with 96% or more electrification, and hence little difference in electrification between rural and urban regions, there was no consistent pattern and little difference in the rural/urban death rate (see figure 5 below). However in states with less than 60% electrification, and most of that in urban centres, the death rate was significant higher in urban areas than in rural areas (figure 5). Similar trends were reported for deaths attributed to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and suicide.

Milham then calculated the percent urban excess for these deaths as follows: All deaths 20.9%; suicide 29.5%; coronary disease 33.7%; all cancers 49.2%; and diabetes 66%. If this urban excess is due to electrification then we have a very serious health issue that needs to be addressed.

This important paper needs to be taken seriously by government health departments. Other scientific studies confirm these findings although none of them shows such dramatic results.

Doctors and scientists can readily understand how chemicals may either help or harm the body since we have a long history of chemicals and their biological effects both in terms of the healing effects of medication and the harmful effects of chemical pollutants. Indeed, we attribute the increase in the “diseases” of the 21st century to some combination of chemical toxicants (for example cigarette smoking and heart disease, asbestos and mesothelioma), or biological agents (such as the flu virus, bacterial infection, parasites, mould), and some combination of lifestyle choices (diet and exercise).

Few take into consideration the impact that the electromagnetic environment has on our health. For some reason the only harmful aspects of electromagnetic energy that are widely accepted include excess UV radiation leading to melanoma, x-rays and cosmic radiation contributing to various types of cancers, the heating effect of microwaves, childhood leukemia and magnetic fields, and light at night reducing melatonin levels and possibly contributing to breast cancer. Apart from these, it is assumed that electricity and the wireless technology that surrounds us is totally benign. How absurd!

The sooner we recognize that electromagnetic energy can both harm and heal the sooner we will be able to address many of the health issues we are facing today. We desperately need an infusion of information and/or a paradigm shift in the way health care professions, doctors, medical schools, and medical scientists understand and deal with electromagnetic energy. This understanding will come. My hope it that is comes sooner rather than later so that we can more effectively alleviate some of the causes of human suffering.

Historical evidence that electrification caused the 20th century epidemic of ‘‘diseases of civilization”

Samuel Milham, Washington State Department of Health, Olympia, WA, USA Medical Hypotheses, September 2009 in press.

Summary: The slow spread of residential electrification in the US in the first half of the 20th century from urban to rural areas resulted by 1940 in two large populations; urban populations, with nearly complete electrification and rural populations exposed to varying levels of electrification depending on the progress of electrification in their state. It took until 1956 for US farms to reach urban and rural non-farm electrification levels. Both populations were covered by the US vital registration system. US vital statistics tabulations and census records for 1920–1960, and historical US vital statistics documents were examined. Residential electrification data was available in the US census of population for 1930, 1940 and 1950. Crude urban and rural death rates were calculated, and death rates by state were correlated with electrification rates by state for urban and rural areas for 1940 white resident deaths. Urban death rates were much higher than rural rates for cardiovascular diseases, malignant diseases, diabetes and suicide in 1940. Rural death rates were significantly correlated with level of residential electric service by state for most causes examined. I hypothesize that the 20th century epidemic of the so called diseases of civilization including cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes and suicide was caused by electrification not by lifestyle. A large proportion of these diseases may therefore be preventable.
